Navigating the lock
It is fascinating to see the boats navigate the locks. The water is released, it thunders and roars, the boats rise out of the lock or sink down the lock stairs. The gates open and the boats glide gently out of the lock. Passenger steamers Diana, Wilhelm Tham and Juno were built for the Göta Canal, they exactly fit the locks. In Hajstorp you can get really close and also have a snack or ice cream while you watch the show.
Artisans around the canal
In the warehouse in Hajstorp there is a sales exhibition of local crafts. You can buy hand-woven mats, ceramics in the form of sculptures but also functional pottery, woodcrafts, silver jewellery, wrought iron and textiles, arts and crafts of very high quality. A great outing for those interested in arts and crafts.
On the upper floor of the warehouse is the exhibition “En bondefamiljs liv för hundra år sedan" (“The life of a farming family one hundred years ago”). Here children can try weaving, carve out bark boats, blow soap bubbles etc.

Hajstorp Smithy
Hajstorp was a large working station when the canal was being built. So in the old smithy in Hajstorp many of the wrought iron details of the Göta Canal were produced. Today a non-profit association runs the smithy. The first Wednesday of every month is have-a-go smithing from 18.00 to 21.00. The smithy is open when the chimney is smoking and one of the members is there and working.

Rent a bicycle
Along the Göta canal you can cycle, hike, canoe etc. We rent out bicycles primarily to those who stay with us. In June 2022 the Göta Canal National Cycle Path will be inaugurated. This means even more facilities along the Göta Canal for you cyclists.
A tip for those of you who come by train to Töreboda – book accommodation with us, rent your bicycle at Café Visthuset in Töreboda (circa 500 m from the train station) and then cycle out to us, we are 4.5 km from Café Visthuset cycling along the beautiful Göta Canal all the way. If you come to Sjötorp there is bicycle rental at Sjötorp upplevelsecenter
